Sometimes, I'm not sure what to say in stuff like this, but since it's all about me, that means I get to say whatever I want, right? So here we go....
I have been reading since before I started Kindergarten (only slightly precocious, there) and I haven't slowed down much. I probably discovered romantic themes in books with Anne McCaffrey and Mercedes Lackey. My favorite books and favorite authors are many and varied; one day perhaps I will manage to list them all here or elsewhere.
I discovered Romance as a distinct genre in high school, when I was babysitting for one of my mother's colleagues (for the record, my mom has a PhD in biochemistry and is a college professor; that's a LOT to live up to). After the kids went to sleep, I started raiding my mom's friend's bookcase and was introduced to the love of my life; Georgette Heyer's Venetia. After that I started downing Regencies like water, and my aunt turned me on to contemporaries with her collection of late 80s/early 90s Harlequin Presents. And it's all been downhill from there (in the best sense, naturally)!
Then, I discovered M/M romance, and hoo boy! *THAT* has been an eye-opener (yeah, you know what I said about Misty up there? Vanyel = gay just never really clicked for me. I guess I never understood that it was bucking the system on any level. Or that people would disapprove, or marginalize, or FEEL marginalized -- despite the fact that, in the books, Vanyel himself had to deal with these issues! I'm socially slow sometimes.)
Now I'm a fully-grown adult -- by certain standards, anyway -- and I'm not just reading for my own pleasure, I'm reading for my kids. I feel passionately that I need to know what they're reading, what they will be reading, what issues I will need to start dialogues about with them. It's tough being a grown-up; especially one who's concerned and interested in her kids, and also one who's concerned about and interested in society in general.
In addition to that, I'm still learning about myself. That's the journey that never really ends -- self-discovery. I know certain things about myself, but I'm still learning the depths of them, and still learning new things, and learning new things about myself. That's why you'll find book reviews on here, as well as random rants about things that are happening in my life that have nothing to do with reading. There will be occasional food blogging (hopefully including recipes and pictures) and I will talk about things that I'm interested in or concerned about regarding my kids -- or kids in general.
However, being smart, you'll see pictures of my pets, pictures of random things, pictures by other people, OLD pictures -- but never current ones of my family.
In the interests of peace, love and understanding, I may also find myself posting pictures that I find visually compelling that may or may not be SFW. I'll try to compile all the ones that are purely for visceral pleasure onto a single page away from my main blog, but I promise nothing! Be forewarned -- some pages are "Enter At Your Own Risk!"
